  • Eligibility

    Early or Normal Retiree
    Must be receiving a pension from the Carpenters Retirement Plan (or, for retired lathers, from the Cement Masons and Plasterers Retirement Plan) and must have 7,500 hours (excluding reciprocal hours) in the 120 months prior to retirement.

    Disability Retirement
    Same criteria as above except that the 7,500 hours must have been reported in the 120 months prior to the date of disability.

    Surviving Spouse
    Must be receiving a monthly retirement or preretirement benefit from the Carpenters Retirement Plan.

    Retirement health benefits are not vested or guaranteed.

     
  • Medicare

    Pre-Medicare
    Prior to Medicare eligibility, the plan is very similar to that of active participants.
    Medicare Eligible
    Once you or your spouse are eligible for Medicare, you must enroll in both Medicare Part A and Part B. Failure to do so will result in a reduction of benefits. You will automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part D by the Trust.
    Options for retirees on Medicare
    You have three basic options with regard to the plan once you are on Medicare:
    1. Stay in the Retiree Health Plan.
    2. Enroll in SecureHorizons.
    3. Disenroll from the Retiree Health Plan and purchase a Medicare Supplemental Plan (Medigap) or Medicare Advantage Plan.

  • Costs and Benefits

    Retiree Health Plan
    The monthly cost per person is $600 for pre-Medicare and $363 (effective 1/1/2011) for those on Medicare. These rates do not include the service-based subsidy.

    The Retiree Health Plan is generally the same as the Employee Health Plan except for the differences noted below.
    SecureHorizons
    The monthly cost per person is $357 (effective 1/1/2011).

    SecureHorizons is a Medicare Advantage Plan that covers prescriptions as well as everything covered by Medicare. You continue to have life insurance through the Retiree Health Plan.
    These rates do not include your service-based subsidy, if applicable.
