About The Apprenticeship Program

An apprentice is someone learning a trade by working under the guidance of skilled workers or journey level worker. It's essentially on-the-job training with supplemental classroom education. This "earn while you learn" approach is important because it provides the industry with educated and motivated workers while providing you with the training and skills required for a highly rewarding and fulfilling career.

As an apprentice, your wage is set by your JATC and is based on a progressive (usually 50-60 percent) of the journey scale for each trade. Wage increases are based on the satisfactory completion of related instruction and hours logged in the field. As your skills increase so does your pay rate - until your wages are 90-95 percent of the journey rate. Your fringe benefit package includes medical and dental coverage for you and your family, and two pension plans for your retirement. Eligibility and enrollment information will be provide to you.

The Apprenticeship Program is registered with and part of the apprenticeship program sponsored by the State of Washington.
