How To Apply For The Apprenticeship Program |
Before you apply for the Apprenticeship Program, contact one of the Training Centers or Local Union Offices. The Training Center locations and telephone numbers are on the back of this brochure. The application process may vary slightly at each Training Center.
You must complete an application. Applications are available from your Training Center and certain Local Unions and must be returned to your Training Center. All applicants must be 17 years of age or older and you must provide proof of your age when you return your application.
When you return your application, you must schedule a Compass or Asset Test. This test is a general measure of reading comprehension and math aptitude. Your Training Center will accept test scores from all community colleges or you may schedule one through your Training Center. Your test score should be returned to your Training Center.
You must be available for a drug screening within 30 days of beginning your “Safety and Orientation Program” (please see below). Your first test is paid for by the Carpenters-Employers Apprenticeship and Training Trust of Western Washington. When your Training Center receives a negative drug screening result, you will be contacted by mail with the starting date and time of the “Safety and Orientation Program.” The drug screening results are good for that class only. If you miss that class, you must take and pass another drug test. The “Pre-Apprenticeship Safety and Orientation Program” is limited to the first 25 applicants.
You must successfully complete the “Safety and Orientation Program.” This program is coordinated through the Apprenticeship Committee at your Training Center. A program syllabus and schedule is available upon request. Satisfactory completion of the program means you receive a passing score or better. In certain circumstances, a program that meets or exceeds this programs criteria may be substituted. You must also maintain your status in a pool of eligible applicants.
When all of your paperwork and tests results are in, you will be placed in a pool of eligible applicants. Applicants will be “indentured” into or selected for the Apprenticeship Program based on test score rankings. You must check-in with your Training Center on a monthly basis to maintain eligibility for the program. Please be sure your Training Center always has your current telephone number and address.
