Suspension Of Coverage

Non-Signatory Employers

If a retiree works one or more hours for a non-signatory employer in the building and construction industry, his or her coverage under the Carpenters Health and Security Plan – For Retired Carpenters will be suspended on the first day of the month following the month the Trust Office is notified that he or she worked for a non-signatory employer. The terms “building and construction industry” and “work in the building and construction industry” are defined as follows:

  • “Building and construction industry” means business activities of the types engaged in by any employers maintaining the Carpenters Retirement Plan of Western Washington.
  • “Work in the building and construction industry” means  work of the type performed by employees or associate employees covered by the Carpenters Retirement Plan or work which requires directly or indirectly the use of the same skills employed by an employee at any time under the Carpenters Retirement Plan.

Coverage under the Carpenters Health and Security Plan – For Retired Carpenters will be reinstated on the first of the month following the month the retiree stops working for a non-signatory employer. The retiree is responsible for notifying the Trust Office that he or she has ceased working for a non-signatory employer as a condition of reinstatement. These suspension rules do not apply to disability retirement (please see Termination Of Coverage below).
